Mamoru Taniya: Chairman
Mamoru Taniya and Toshihiro Hirao established Asuka Asset Management in July 2002 as a result of a management buyout. Taniya has a broad range of investment experiences from fixed-income derivatives to private equities. Prior to founding Asuka, Taniya was a director and one of the principle founding members of Tudor Capital Japan (1999-2002) and previously a managing director at Salomon Smith Barney (1987-1998). At Tudor, he successfully started its private equity business in Japan. At Salomon, Taniya co-managed the Japan and Asia proprietary trading department with Toshihiro Hirao. Prior to managing proprietary trading, he was the head of equity and fixed income derivatives trading for Salomon's Tokyo operation and a pioneer in his field. He previously managed the volatility book and started the yen CB/warrant arbitrage trading desk at Salomon. Mamoru Taniya graduated from the University of Tokyo in 1987 with a B.A. in Law.
He is a member of the Corporate Governance Study Group and the Corporate Value Study Group of Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI). Also, he acted as a Vice-Chairman of the Committee for the Promotion of New Business Creation of Japan Association of Corporate Executives.
Toshihiro Hirao: President, Representative Director
Toshihiro Hirao and Mamoru Taniya established Asuka Asset Management in July 2002 as a result of a management buyout. Hirao was most recently a director in charge of Japanese equity trading at Tudor Capital Japan (1999-2002). He is a specialist in Japanese equities and has over 10 years of experience in trading long/short Japanese equity markets. Hirao, also a principle founding member of Tudor Capital Japan, managed its Japanese equity long/short and directional portfolio and has a long proven track record within the volatile Japanese markets. Before joining Tudor, he was a managing director and co-head of Salomon Smith Barney's Japan and Asia proprietary trading department. At Salomon, he was the principal manager for the 80 billion yen CB/Warrant arbitrage portfolio as well as the equity long/short portfolio. Toshihiro Hirao graduated from Waseda University in 1987 with a B.A. in Law.
Eiji Miura: Managing Executive Officer, Client Solutions
Eiji Miura joined Asuka in June 2013 as head of Client Solutions. Miura was most recently an executive officer and managing director of JP Morgan Asset Management's Japan entity as head of Sales to institutional investors (1997-2012). Before this position, Miura was engaged in proprietary trading at Bankers Trust for 5 years (1992-1997) and in JGB trading at J.P. Morgan (1988-1992), where he started his career. Miura graduated from Doshisha University in 1988 with a B.A. in Law.
Yoshihiko Fujita: Executive Officer Chief Risk Controller, Information Technology
Yoshihiko Fujita joined Asuka in May 2006 as a quantitative analyst. Fujita became Co-Chief Risk Controller in 2009 and is Chief Risk Controller since 2011. Before joining Asuka, he was most recently at Horizon Asset International as Head of Technology. Prior to this position, he was engaged in the same role at Tudor Capital Japan and also played a key role in the successful launch of the private equity business. Previously, he spent five years in systems and research at Salomon Brothers and Goldman Sachs in Tokyo, having started his career as a technical analyst at CSK. Fujita graduated from Kyoto University in 1990 with a B.S. in Engineering.
